Stu MacKay is president of MacKay & Company, a specialized market research and consulting firm established by him in 1968. MacKay & Company concentrates the majority of its research and consulting activity in the truck, heavy equipment, agricultural equipment, engine and parts and service distribution businesses. In over 40 years since its founding, MacKay & Company has completed a broad variety of assignments dealing with the transportation industry, the trucking industry, truck distribution, parts and service distribution, distribution planning and development and a variety of related assignments.

MacKay’s experience includes sales and marketing positions at Cummins Engine Company as well as at its Cummins Filtration Division. Prior to joining Cummins, MacKay served on the operations staff of Red Star Express Lines from 1956 to 1961. MacKay holds an undergraduate degree in Economics from Cornell University and a master’s degree in Business Administration from the Amos Tuck School of Business Administration at Dartmouth College.

Terry Dotson is president, CEO, chief motivator and, when necessary, chief cook and bottle washer at WorldWide Equipment, Inc, based in Prestonsburg, Kentucky. WorldWide Equipment has served the trucking industry for more than 40 years with 32 locations in 5 states. WorldWide supplies trucks, trailers and equipment to a wide variety of vocations in its five state area. Natural resource extraction (particularly coal) is as important to WorldWide as is conventional highway equipment. Dotson is active not only in industry associations and functions – but in the various communities in which WorldWide operates. 

William F. Ryan is the Chairman and CEO of Point Spring & Driveshaft Company, a family owner company, turning 84 in 2010. The company has grown from a single location in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to multi-locations in Pennsylvania,West Virginia and Ohio. Ryan received his BS in Economics from the University of Notre Dame in 1976 and his MILR in Industrial and Labor Relations from Cornell University in 1978. Prior to joining Point Spring in 1983, he spent five years at Cummins Engine Company. In addition to many private boards, Ryan has served on a number of industry boards: Board of Heavy Duty America and Drive Train Industries. He is a past member of the Council of Fleet Specialists and has also served on a number of Distributor Advisory Councils over the past fifteen years, including Bendix, Federal Mogul, Arvin Meritor, Euclid and Haldex.

Tom Marx, president and CEO, The Marx Group, speaks to the heart of effective business growth management – from the viewpoint of expert strategic marketing. As chief strategist, head of client services and creative director, his knowledge of business-to-business and consumer marketing and advertising spans 25+ years. Tom brings a depth of marketing expertise from many industries, including automotive and heavy duty parts and services, motorsports, computer hardware and software, telecommunications, broadcast, real estate, financial services and resort property management. He was a professional auto racer, owned a repair shop and started a parts business. Tom is active as Vice Chair of Marketing & Member Relations Committee (AAIA), 1st Vice President of the Automotive Communications Council (ACC) and Automotive Aftermarket Industry Association (AAIA) and Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA).

 

Jason Bader, Managing Partner of The Distribution Team, Inc., specializes in providing excellence in inventory management training, business operations consulting and technology utilization to the wholesale distribution industry. Bader brings over 20 years of experience working in the distribution field. He has overseen various operational teams, managed small and large facilities, and has served in an executive management capacity for the last 10 years. Prior to joining The Distribution Team, he spent four years on the board of directors with STAFDA, the Specialty Tools and Fasteners Distributor Association. He has a B.S. in Human Development from the University of Oregon. Bader focuses his speaking engagements on practical experience, drawing from real experience as a way to teach his audience how to overcome challenges in the wholesale distribution industry. He is a contributing editor to TheWholesaler.

 

John Knutson, Technical Support Manager for Hendrickson Truck Suspensions. Knutson joined Hendrickson in July 2000. Knutson’s role at Hendrickson is the onhighway segment of suspensions in the truck division. Since 2000, his focus is primarily with the AIRTEK, SOFTEK and STEERTEK front suspensionsystems. Knutson provides an in depth knowledge of front suspensions and axle systems, and is responsible for troubleshooting, training, and service publications with the various OEM’s and customers. Previously he served for two years as the Service Manager for aFreightliner dealership. Between the years of 1990 and 1998, he worked extensively as a mechanic for Mack, Peterbilt and Freightliner.

 

Mark Melletat has spent over 25 years in the commercial vehicle industry, most recentlyfocused on Compression & Braking and Active Safety Systems technology such as anti-lock brakes, automatic traction control, roll stability control, electronic stability control and OnGuard collision safety systems. Currently, as Director Trailer Systems/Field Operations for MeritorWABCO, Melletat handles the development, coordination and implementation of product, sales, marketing, customer support and aftermarket strategies for MeritorWABCO products. He earned his B.S in Business Administration fromWayne State University.

 

Roger Maye joined Consolidated Metco in 1977, and he has spent the last 32 years in various positions within the company, such as Foundry Foreman, Quality Manager, and Field Service Engineer. He has had extensive industry experience and knowledge. Currently, Maye holds the position of National Service Manager at Consolidated Metco. He earned his A.S. in Mechanical Engineering at Wingate University, and is active in TMC. He is a recognized Associate, Co-Chairman of theWheel End Skills Station PTDC SuperTech Skills Challenge, is active in the S.6 Chassis Study Group and is a Professional Technician Development Committee Member.

 

Paul Johnston, Sr. Director, Compression & Braking Products, MeritorWABCO Vehicle Control Systems has been in commercial vehicle air and hydraulic braking systems and products for over 40 years. Johnston started his engineering and business career with Bendix-Westinghouse Automotive Air Brake Company. His career also includes employment with WALTCO Truck Equipment Co and Midland-Grau Heavy Duty Braking Systems (Haldex). He joined ArvinMeritor in 1997 and was assigned to MeritorWABCO in 2006. His current responsibilities include the MeritorWABCO Compression and Braking products engineering and business unit including application engineering, product planning and new product development. Johnson is active and has held leadership positions in numerous industry councils which include SAE Truck & Bus Council, SAE Braking and Steering Committee, Heavy Duty Brake Manufacturers Council, TMC & CVSA. Johnston has a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from OhioNorthern University, an M.S. of Science Mechanical Engineering from Cleveland State University and MBA from BaldwinWallace College.

 

Richard P. Farrell, President of Tangent Knowledge Systems, brings a tremendous depth of experience and results to his audiences because of his sales and business development for nearly 25 years. His passionate, provocative and interactive style encourages audience participation, learning and improvement while providing practical, usable “time tested” information. Farrell stresses a non-selling posture that allows the sales person to play the role of a “change agent” rather than a product-centric transactional sales person. He has worked with a range of companies from Fortune 500 companies to start-ups in helping them optimize their performance by assessing their sales people, sales processes, management structure and strategies. In working with his clients, Farrell has helped identify performance gaps and provided sales plans to help track, measure and execute objectives to increase the company’s bottom line. Today in his role, he continues to actively sell, prospect and manage client relationships in addition to the high performance training and development program he personally conducts.

 

Dwight Moore, Industry Solutions Director, Manufacturing, Distribution and Retail, Salesforce.com, has spent the past 15 years working for and with manufacturers, distributors and retailers to deliver sales and marketing improvement through game-changing technology innovations. Moore oversees the solution roadmap, industry marketing and partnerships in the manufacturing, distribution andretail sectors within Salesforce.com. Previously, he held marketing and product leadership roles in mobile marketing and business intelligence start-ups as well as at Siebel Systems where he led the consumer goods vertical segment. Moore earned an MBA from the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Northwestern University and a B.S. in Business Administration from the University ofColorado, Boulder.

 

Derek Smith, Editor of Truck Parts & Service magazine, published by Randall-Reilly Publishing, headquartered in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Smith joined Truck Parts & Service in March 2007. Prior to that, he served as the public relations manager for Peterbilt Motors Company for seven years. Between 1997 and 2000, he worked for Randall Publishing. He was previously, editor and columnist for the Brown Deer Herald (Wis.) and Shorewood Herald (Wis.), and worked on the sports and metro desks of the Milwaukee Journal. Smith has a B.S. in English and Journalism from Marquette University.

 

Sandeep Kar, Global Program Manager of Commercial Vehicle Research at Frost & Sullivan, specializes in advanced global commercial vehicle technologies and markets with expertise in powertrain, chassis, safety, telematics, hybrid, electric and regulation compliance technologies. Sandeep leads a global team of analysts and experts in developing innovative growth strategies for client partners, specifically focused on researching and analyzing revenue growth opportunities arising from advanced truck technologies in global commercial vehicle markets. Sandeep holds an M.S. in heavy-truck dynamics. His publications on heavy vehicle engineering, dynamics, rollover metrics and prevention strategies have been widely appreciated by the academia and industry. He has published technical papers in journals such as International Journal of Heavy Vehicle Systems. Previously, Sandeep worked as an engineer at a leading global truck manufacturer and as manager-marketing in a leading inter-modal transportation company. He is frequently quoted in leading industry journals, such as Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, CNN, Herald Tribune, Business-Week,Washington Post, New York Times, Forbes and USA Today.

 

Fred Schmidt joined Donaldson in 1990, selling stationary catalytic oxidizers. Primary customer targets were global medical device manufacturers who performed gas sterilization. In 1997, he moved to Donaldson’s OEM Truck Group with responsibility for selling air intake, exhaust and liquid filter systems to medium and heavy-duty truck OEM’s, including Peterbilt, Kenworth, Mack Trucks, Mitsubishi, Thermo King, Carrier and others. In 2001, he joined Donaldson’s new Emissions Retrofit group, where he was the original Salesperson and helped build an Emissions Sales Team that now covers US and California markets. He helped Donaldson become a major supplier in the Emissions Retrofit market. Today, Schmidt is General Manager of the Donaldson’s Retrofit Group, responsible for Sales and Engineering of Donaldson’s broad portfolio of tailpipe and crankcase products along with DPF Cleaning Systems.

 

Tom Easton is a senior partner with the Essential Acton Design Group, a Charlotte, N.C.-based training and business performance improvement consultancy. He is an Automotive Aftermarket Professional (AAP) and a member of the American Society of Trainers and Developers, and has been in sales training and employee performance improvements for more than 20 years. Easton’s diversified background insupply and service, combined with his years of profit and loss responsibility, make his presentations and personal perspective interesting and relevant. His training programs have received every award bestowed by the Training Managers Council. Thousands of successful businesses have used his books, videos, articles, business aids and systems.

 

Chuck Udell is a senior partner at Essential Action Design Group. His primary areas of concentration are project management, strategy development, content development, learner research, distance learning and implementation of both performance improvement initiatives and training investment reduction initiatives. Udell is the former president of the AWDA University of the Aftermarket. He received his MBA from the University of Rochester and his BS from the University of Virginia. He received the Automotive Aftermarket Professional (AAP) and Master Automotive Aftermarket Professional (MAAP) designations from the University of the Aftermarket.

 

Deborah Lockridge is editor of Heavy Duty Aftermarket Journal and Heavy Duty Trucking magazines, Newport Communications Group publications. She has become known for her in-depth research on major industry issues during her nearly 20 years in trucking journalism. She is a member of the American Trucking Associations’ Technology and Maintenance Council and has won numerous journalism awards, including a multiple winner of the Grand Neal from the American Business Media’s Jesse H. Neal National Business Journalism Awards. She has a Bachelor’s of Journalism degree from the University of Missouri School of Journalism.

 

Vern Caron is director of hybrid vehicle technology at ArvinMeritor, and among other things has headed up the development of a dual-mode diesel-electric Class 8 hybrid developed forWal-Mart testing. From 2000 until 2003, Caron operated Caron Engineering, a consulting firm engaged in hardware, software and systems design for passenger car and commercial vehicle applications. Prior to that, he spent 12years with Eaton Truck Components Division. He previously worked for Navistar’s Engine Division and Chrysler. Caron received his bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Minnesota, and also holds a Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering and an MBA.

 

Seth Deutsch heads up Global Marketing & Planning for Eaton’s Hybrid Power Systems Division. He has responsibility for overall growth of the hybrid business. Previously, Deutsch was the remanufacturing business unit manager and the aftermarket business development manager for Eaton’s commercial vehicle business. He has a bachelor’s degree in International Policy Studies from Rice University in Houston, Texas and a master’s in Business Administration from The Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.

 

Dan Arcy, OEM Technical Manager at Shell Lubricants, and has been in the lubricants industry for more than 20 years. Responsible for OEM technical support, product development and Shell representative to the heavy-duty engine oil technical committees, he works closely with OEMs in helping to develop new specifications and lubrication products. Arcy has held a number of positions with Shell and serves as Shell’s representative to the American Petroleum Institute (API) Diesel Engine Oil Advisory Panel (DEOAP) and the American Society for Testing and Material, Heavy Duty Engine Oil Classification Panel (HDEOCP). He holds a B.S. in Industrial Education and Technology, Iowa State University.

 

David Waterman, Channel Marketing Manager for the Heavy Duty Installed & OEM business with Shell Lubricants and has been in the lubricants industry for more than 14 years. His current responsibilities include providing marketing support to the Shell Lubricant Heavy Duty Installed sales team in their efforts to grow the Shell Rotella HDEO portfolio, as well as other key product groups utilized in this segment. He works directly with the OEMs in helping to adapt Shell’s offerings to the demands of their networks.Waterman has held a number of positions with Shell. He holds a BSBA in Marketing from the University of Central Florida and an MBA in Technology Management from the University of Phoenix.

Ken Bratz, Principal of Ken Bratz Consulting and Leadership Resources, started his consulting business over 37 years ago with the intent of providing individuals and organizations resources for developing a high-performance environment. The offerings include Strategic Planning, Communication Tools, Team Experiences and many others. Bratz has worked as an executive coach as well as providing a culture change process (IMPACT) for large organizations. Through the years, many courses and intervention strategies have been developed to meet the clients need. The core area of business is marketing the DISC profile to organizations with internal trainers and providing them the support needed to make their applications successful. Bratz is a graduate of Texas A&M University. He is a Business Chaplain and head of the Anderson County Red Cross Disaster Services.
